|The value of Indonesia’s artistic work exports during January-June 2011 was recorded at 5.49 million US dollars, or up 25.6 percent from 4.37 million US dollars in the same period last year.|
|"The increase was thanks to many factors, among other things promotion. But the main factor was the fact the Indonesian creative products are now of better quality," Deputy Trade Minister Mahendra Siregar said here on Thursday.|
Indonesia exports among other things paintings, sculptures, and wooden carvings. The markets of creative industry products have also expanded, according to the deputy minister.
"Because our products meet the needs of middle to upper class buyers in the export destination countries," he said.
The creative industry products were exported to America, Japan and European countries. Since a few years ago, the government has been seriously boosting the creative economy and made a blueprint for its development, Siregar said.
The development efforts have been focused on industrial sub sectors such as the industries of advertisement, printing, television, radio and film, video and photography, music, arts, architectures, design, fashion, handicrafts, interactive games, computer services, software, research and development.
Based on data of the trade ministry, the total export value of various products in the creative industry in 2010 reached US$131 billion.
Since 2006 to 2010, the creative industry contribution to the gross domestic product increased from 7.4 percent to 7.7 percent. The added value of creative industry also rose from Rp157 trillion in 2006 to Rp486 trillion in 2010.
