| Date: 29 November 2010 - Author: Kompas | | The government will raise cigarette excise taxes by four to ten percent beginning January 1, 2011, a senior official said. | "The real increase is about four to ten percent but the average increase is about five to six percent after being adjusted to the inflation rate prediction in 2011," Director General of Customs and Excises of the Ministry of Fiance, Thomas Sugijata said here on Saturday. He said that the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) had set a target of customs and excise receipts at the state budget in 2011 at an amount bigger than that of 2010. So, raising the excise tax rate is one of the steps to be taken to increase the excise and customs’ receipts.
"The target of excise receipts in the state budget in 2011 was raised by Rp2 trillion from that in 2010, and to meet this we have to raise the customs tax rate at about five to six percent," he said. The target of excise tax receipts in 2011 was set at Rp62.7 trillion. The target of tax receipts as set in the revised 2010 state budget was Rp59.26 trillion. Of this target, tax from tobacco was set at Rp55.9 trillion. |
