President to Attend Shanghai Expo 2010

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend Shanghai World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.
At 7.30 local time on Monday morning the president and his entourage left Halim Perdanakusuma airport for Shanghai. The head of state is accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad, Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa, and several other officials. At the Shanghai World Expo 2010, the head of state will visit the Indonesian pavilion, displaying the the country`s natural resources and cultures.

Since the beginning of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 on May 1, 2010, the Indonesian pavilion has been visited by more than 7.5 million visitors or around 10 percent of the total number of visitors of the expo. Besides visiting the Indonesian pavilion, the president will also act as a keynote speaker at a business forum to be attended by around 300 leading Indonesian and Chinese businessmen.

A number of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Indonesian and Chinese business makers on various cooperation in mining, energy, agriculture, and creative economy will also be signed in the presence of the Indonesian head of state. After his visit to China, President Yudhoyono will attend the 17th Asean Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 27 to 30, 2010.

At the summit, the Asean leadership will be handed over by Vietnam to Indonesia to become the leader of Asean. Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said here recently that various regional and international issues would be discussed at the summit themed "Towards the Asean Community from Vision to Action."

"The Asean Summit agenda this time is to achieve an Asean Community institution in 2015, and enforce three main pillars namely on the economy, social, and political affairs," Marty said recently. According to Marty, "Asean Pluses" cooperation status of plus one, plus two and plus three would be one of the agendas of the 17th Asean Summit.
