|The Malaysia-Indonesia Journalists Solidarity Association (Iswami) at a meeting of journalists and culturalists here Saturday issued a Bukittinggi Declaration on efforts to step up and promote the two countries` good relations.|
|The declaration contains five agreements between the two countries` journalists to increase cooperation, Iswami Indonesia chief Saiful Hadi said.|
The declaration was read out by Iswami Indonesia chief Syaiful Hadi and his Malaysian counterpart Chamil Wariya and witnessed by the chief of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Tarman Azzam, and Iswami Malaysia President II En A Jalil Ali at the meeting at Triarga Building scheduled from September 23-25 in conjunction with the Malaysian Information, Communication and Culture Minister Rais Yatim`s tour of the province.
The declaration also contains the two countries` journalists` intention to formulate a code of ethics on reporting about the two countries.
It also contains journalists` commitment to being pro-active in strengthening the good relations between Indonesia and Malaysia at people and government levels by promoting various social, economic and cultural activities in the two countries.
The two countries` journalists also agreed to strengthen their cooperation to bridge and find solutions to problems faced by the two countries and act as a conflict-solving institution.
They also agreed to make the Indonesian and Malay languages a language of science and common language of the two nations and implement the code of ethics, responsible and fair journalism when reporting issues in the two countries.
The declaration after being read out and signed will later be submitted to the respective ministers of information and communication.
Malaysian Information Minister Rais Yatim , accompanied by several officials and 40 journalists, was visiting West Sumatra to enhance fraternal relations.
