| Date: 15 March 2010 - Author: Antara | | Jakarta - Preparations for the signing of a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (CPA) with the United States are continuing despite a delay in President Barrack Obama's arrival in Indonesia, a foreign ministry spokesman said. | The US President's press secretary, Robert Gibbs, through his Twitter account on Saturday (March 13) said that Obama would delay his trip to Australia and Indonesia by three days to work on domestic health care reform. The tour was scheduled to start on March 18 but the date moved to March 21.
"The CPA's draft which is scheduled to be signed during President Obama's visit to Indonesia is nearing its finalization," foreign ministry spokesman Teukeu Faizasyah said here on Saturday.
He emphasized that the CPA draft covering a wide range of issues such as economy, science and technology, education, social issues, politics and military cooperation was expected to be finalized when the US president arrived in Jakarta.
The spokesman also added Indonesia had initially predicted that Obama would arrive in Jakarta sometime in the third or fourth week of March.
"The delayed schedule will no be a problem for the preparations of Obama's coming to Indonesia since the latest date announced by the White House matches our prediction," said Faizasyah.
Robert Gibbs on Saturday (March 13) announces that President Barrack Obama will delay his trip to Indonesia and Australia by three days to work on health care reform.
"The President will delay his departure for Indonesia and Australia - will now leave Sunday - the First Lady and the girls will not be on the trip," Gibbs wrote on his twitter.
Obama had been due to visit Guam, Australia and Indonesia, where he spent four years of his childhood with his American mother and Indonesian stepfather.
Gibbs earlier said the tour to Indonesia was an "extremely important trip" involving "important partners". |
